Southgate House Gets 2nd Ameripolitan Awards Nomination for 2019
For the second year in a row, our friends at the Southgate House Revival have been nominated as “Venue of the Year” for the Ameripolitan Music Awards, which sets out to celebrate “music with prominent roots influence—Outlaw, Western Swing, Rockabilly and Honky Tonk.” The awards ceremony is just around the corner, February 25, at the Graceland Theater in Memphis.
Performers over the event weekend include Kim Lenz, Rosie Flores, Cincinnati’s own Dallas Moore, Wayne Hancock, Hillbilly Casino, and a handful more; Dale Watson himself hosts “Chicken $#!+ Bingo,” surely not to be missed.
“It's a true honor to be nominated for the Ameripoltian Music Awards Venue of the Year for the second year in a row. Dale Watson and his crew do an amazing job in recognizing and celebrating the real deal independent artists working in these original genres these days,” says Morrella Raleigh, Southgate House manager.
Past winners include Brian Setzer, Nikki Lane, recent Herzog Music visitor Chris Scrugs, and Whitey Morgan and the 78’s.
As you may be aware, the roots of Americana and Country music run deep here at Herzog—we’re the last standing structure where Hank Sr. recorded and where Henry Glover oversaw the recordings of early King artists. The Delmore Brothers’ time at Herzog yielded world-shifting “hillbilly boogie” recordings: a musical style which led to Rockabilly and paved the way for Rock ‘n Roll. Bob Dylan even cited their recordings for being a major influence on his vocal style.
